A Navy-operated AMC passenger terminal at Naval Station Norfolk handles Space-A flights on the Hampton Roads waterfront at Sewell's Point. Official Navy pages call Naval Station Norfolk the largest naval complex in the world. This East Coast Navy passenger function sits on AMC's CONUS list rather than under an Air Force host wing. Hampton Roads travelers use this counter, not a commercial-airport gateway and not an Air Force aerial port.

Where is the passenger terminal?

Navy / AMC Air Terminal Norfolk is in Bldg LP210, 8225 Patrol Road, Norfolk, VA 23511 (ZIP 23511-4401 on the Gram).

GPS the Patrol Road address, not a generic “Naval Station Norfolk” pin. The terminal sits on Chambers Field, on base. There is no published terminal map URL on the AMC page.

How do I get on base / which gate should I use?

As of the AMC page banner effective 21 July 2026:

  • Gate 2: 24/7
  • Gate 3A: 24/7
  • Gate 4: Mon–Fri inbound and outbound 0500–1900; closed weekends
  • Gate 22: Mon–Fri inbound and outbound 0500–1900; closed weekends

Expect inbound/outbound lane shifts at active gates during peak commute hours. If you are arriving for a late-night or weekend PE (show times are often evening), plan on Gate 2 or 3A. Gate hours change; confirm with Passenger Service Dispatch before you drive.

CAC / DoD ID holders use a vehicle-access gate. Visitors without a CAC or military dependent ID need REAL ID-compliant ID (or a U.S. passport) and processing at the installation Visitor Control Center (SECNAV 5512/1). Do not assume you can roll up to Gate 22 at 0400 on a Saturday.

What are hours, phone, DSN, and email?

Hours: 0600–2400 on the live AMC page (stamp 27 Aug 2026). The June 2026 AMC Gram still prints Daily 0400–2400. Use the page. The terminal can stay open for flights outside posted hours; call Dispatch if your show time is before 0600.

How do I sign up for Space-A?

Email navsta_norfolk_n327_spacea_signup@us.navy.mil, or use the HQ AMC Space-A email form and select NS Norfolk VA.

HQ AMC does not process sign-up; the terminal does. The AMC form warns that the terminal may not receive the email because of technical issues. Print the completed form or your confirmation and bring it. If you do not get a confirmation, call Dispatch and verify they have you.

How and when do I mark present?

Mark present in person at the Information / Space-A counter. Remote sign-up is not “present.”

For PE, the show/roll-call window is tight and the line can be long; duty passengers are processed first. Have passports, orders, pet paperwork, and all bags with you. After the NLT time you get sent to the Information Counter, not automatically boarded.

When is roll call?

At the Information / Space-A counter: 3 hours prior to PE departure, 2 hours prior to all other flights, unless the 72-hour schedule says otherwise.

Verify the exact NLT and roll-call times on the 72-Hour Schedule icon on the AMC Norfolk page. The Roll Call icon is a recent-trends report, not a substitute for today’s 72-hour board. All flights can change or delay without notice.

When should duty / PE passengers check in?

PE: Check-in counters open 1800 local the day before departure. Be in the terminal NLT 3 hours before scheduled PE departure.

Other military aircraft: Check-in opens 24 hours prior. Be in the terminal NLT 2 hours before departure.

If you check in early, bring all checked bags, carry-ons, and pets. Duty / space-required passengers must turn in a complete, legible paper copy of funded travel orders at check-in. Late arrivals are redirected to the Information Counter.

Does this terminal operate Patriot Express flights? If yes, to where?

Yes. Norfolk is a PE gateway. Duty/PCS passengers are booked through the transportation office; Space-A rides leftover seats.

The June 2026 AMC Gram publishes Space-A head tax and pet/excess-bag fees for:

  • NSA Bahrain
  • Djibouti
  • NS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
  • NSF Diego Garcia

That is a tariff list, not a promise those missions operate this week. The live September 2026 PE schedule lists Diego Garcia NSF and Djibouti Ambouli on 5 Sep and 19 Sep; both Bahrain Int’l rows are printed CANCELLED. GTMO is on the tariff table but not on that September PE board. Europe PE destinations that appeared on the March 2025 Gram (Rota, Naples, Sigonella, Souda Bay) are not on the 2026 tariff table. Check the live 72-hour and PE icons. Do not plan a hop from a blog rumor.

Where is short-term and long-term parking, max days, and pass rules?

Long-term: Passes available up to 60 days. Park in rows 9 and 10 only. Have your vehicle tag number ready. The 2026 Gram lists long-term parking at (757) 445-1492.

The AMC page does not print short-term row numbers, overnight rules, or RV rules. If you need more than 60 days, ask Dispatch or the parking number above; do not invent a Gate 5 lot from unofficial writeups.

What lodging is nearby on-base and off-base?

Off-base: The Gram lists several Norfolk hotels (SpringHill, Hampton Inn Hampton Blvd, Hilton Military Hwy, etc.) with an explicit no-endorsement disclaimer. Book eligibility and pet rules yourself. Nightly rates are not published here.

Is there a USO, food, Wi-Fi, showers, lockers?

USO Mid-Atlantic, Naval Station Norfolk–AMC Terminal is in the same building: Bldg LP210, 8225 Patrol Road. https://midatlantic.uso.org/naval-station-norfolk-amc-terminal

USO lists beverages, snacks, Wi-Fi, games, children’s play area, nursery, and showers. They do not publish clock hours (only that the facility has reopened). The AMC terminal page itself does not document Wi-Fi, food, lockers, or showers. Treat lockers as unpublished. The Gram’s “Norfolk International USO (757) 233-0567” is the airport USO, not this one.

What documents are required?

Duty / space-required: Full, legible paper copy of funded travel orders, turned in at check-in.

Space-A: Eligibility under DoDI 4515.13, plus passports/visas as required by destination, and Foreign Clearance Guide / Force Health Protection rules. Bring your sign-up confirmation.

Dependents under 10 without an ID (duty travel): passport and/or DoD ID number; passport for overseas.

Base access (no CAC / dependent ID): REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID, or U.S. passport, plus Visitor Control Center processing.

Have passports, orders, and pet paperwork on your person, not packed in a checked bag.

What are baggage limits and Space-A/PE fees if published?

Bags (AMC Norfolk page): 2 checked bags per person, 70 lb and 62 linear inches each, unless orders say otherwise. One carry-on plus one personal item that fits under the seat or in the overhead. Lithium batteries and e-cigarettes are not allowed in checked bags.

Fees (2026 Gram, departing Norfolk PE destinations above): Space-A head tax $23.40 per passenger; pet $125 per 70 lb; excess bag $125 per 70 lb bag. Returning from those destinations, a CBP FIS fee of $18.23 is added to the Space-A head tax. The HTML page also prints PE Space-A head tax $23.40, card only.

Payment: Norfolk does not accept cash. Card transaction only.

These fees change. Do not treat a 2026 Gram number as locked for a trip months out.

Can I travel with pets from here?

Yes, on missions that accept them (typically PE). Pets booked in the belly may be in the first-floor arrivals area only. Pets stay in the carrier inside the terminal (service animals excepted). Walk them before boarding. Pet exercise area is outside the terminal to the left.

You own the paperwork: microchip, shots, border rules, DD Form 2208 / 2209 or civilian equivalents, bilingual certificates, proof of ownership. See move.mil pet immigration guidance and the AMC Pet Travel page. Call Dispatch before you count on a pet slot; Space-A pet space is limited.

Which gate should I use for a 1900+ PE show time?

Gate 22 and Gate 4 close at 1900 weekdays and are closed weekends (effective 21 July 2026). Use Gate 2 or 3A for evening, overnight, and weekend arrivals. Do not trust older “Gate 22 is 24/7” lodging blurbs.

Did Norfolk drop the Europe rotator?

The March 2025 Gram tariffed Rota, Naples, Sigonella, and Souda Bay. The June 2026 Gram does not. That is a strong signal those PE routes are not currently sold from Norfolk, but it is not a forever closure notice. Check the live PE/72-hour PDFs. Do not build a Europe itinerary on 2025 pamphlets.

Can I pay cash at the counter?

No. Card only. Plan for the $23.40 PE head tax (plus FIS on return) on a card.

When do PE counters actually open?

1800 local the day before PE departure. Showing up at 1600 the day prior does not get you a boarding pass.

Is the Navy Lodge next to the terminal?

No. NGIS Wall Manor is the close-in inn. Navy Lodge Norfolk is about 4 miles away on Hampton Blvd. Call NGIS on arrival day for which building to check into.

What if I don’t have a CAC and I’m a retiree/dependent trying to Space-A?

You still need base access: REAL ID or passport, and VCC if the gate requires a visitor pass. VCC hours are typically weekday daytime; a Saturday 0500 roll call is a planning problem if you do not already have installation access. Confirm with Pass and ID / VCC before you travel. June 2026 Gram lists Pass and ID (757) 322-2977.

Is there a second “Navy ops” terminal on the other side of the runway?

Unofficial Space-A writeups mention an LP-1 ops counter for small Navy missions. That is not on the official AMC Norfolk page or 2026 Gram. Do not treat it as an AMC Space-A channel unless Dispatch tells you it is.

Do I need paper orders if I’m duty on PE?

Yes. Space-required passengers must turn in a complete, legible paper copy of funded orders. A phone PDF is not what the banner asks for.

Where do I put the pet during a long PE wait?

In the carrier, first floor only, or at the outdoor exercise area to the left of the terminal. Do not take belly-booked pets upstairs.

Can I leave a car for two months?

Long-term passes go to 60 days, rows 9–10 only, tag number required. Ask Dispatch / (757) 445-1492 before you exceed that.

Is Wi-Fi / showers in the AMC hold room or only in the USO?

The AMC page does not list terminal Wi-Fi, showers, or lockers. The USO in LP210 lists Wi-Fi and showers. Confirm USO hours in person; they are not printed.

What about AEF / contingency reporting?

The AMC page has a separate “Norfolk AEF Reporting Instructions” link. If you are on AEF/contingency orders, use that, not the Space-A FAQ.
