Naval Air Station North Island on Coronado, across San Diego Bay, runs Navy Space-A flights from the Naval Base Coronado air terminal, not an AMC-operated passenger terminal. A 1963 House Armed Services Committee resolution recognized the station as the Birthplace of Naval Aviation. Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers have used the field as a home port since USS Langley in 1924. Travelers work the North Island air-terminal register under Navy signup rules.

Last verified 27 August 2026. Hours, fees, and presence rules change. Confirm with this terminal’s official page before you travel. Pop’s is unofficial.

Where is the passenger terminal?

Street address and building number: Not published on the Space-A or FAQ pages (P1 left `street_address` blank). CNIC Installation-Site-Map is a website sitemap, not a geographic terminal map.

GPS KNZY / Halsey Field ARP (workbook coordinates) is not a terminal-building survey. On base at NAS North Island. Official lodging pins are NGIS 1300 Rogers Road, Bldg 1521 and Navy Lodge Bldg 1401-A — those are inns, not the air terminal. Unofficial building numbers are flagged unofficial.

How do I get on base / which gate should I use?

The Space-A page does not print NASNI airfield gate names or gate hours.

From official NAVBASE Coronado Visitor Control (search-indexed 27 Aug 2026; CNRSW HTML fetch 403):

VCC: just to the left of the main gate (Gate 1) at Naval Base Coronado on 4th Ave, Building 680. Issues DBIDS / contractor / special-event access. VCC will not accept any request from visitors — the sponsor must email nbc_baseaccess@us.navy.mil or call VCC (expect 24 business hours; emails Friday after 1200 are called out as delayed in the truncated index).

VCC hours conflict — print both; do not silently pick:

Gate 1 / 4th Ave is NBC / NAB Coronado’s published main-gate VCC, not a published “show at the NASNI air terminal gate” SOP. Do not invent a Halsey Field passenger-gate clock from blogs. CAC / DoD ID holders use an open vehicle-access gate. A Saturday 0500 show with no pass is a planning problem: VCC is closed weekends on both official clocks.

What are hours, phone, DSN, and email?

Hours (official Space-A page — wins): Not published as a daily desk block. What is printed: showtime for any flight is 2 hours prior to posted departure; sign up cut off is one hour prior to departure. Call the Air Terminal Front Desk to confirm flights. Flights may depart earlier than the hour posted.

Do not copy VCC 0630–1530 or NGIS check-in 1600 onto the air terminal.

The page labels it NSA North Island Air Terminal (NSA vs NAS naming on the same Navy site — not corrected here).

NASNI is not on the HQ AMC 40-location Space-A email form.

How do I sign up for Space-A?

Email nasni_air_terminal_manager@navy.mil with the fields the Space-A page lists:

  • First and Last Name
  • Rank/Rate Category
  • Destination

Navy rules on that page / FAQ (do not treat this as an AMC 40-location terminal):

  • One destination (no country sign-up). Destination can be changed at the customer’s option.
  • No self sign-up. FAQ: that service is not available at NAS North Island.
  • No register-status lookup. FAQ: not available at NAS North Island.
  • Re-register every 45 days to remain in the system.
  • Active duty must have leave papers in hand when manifesting the day of a flight.
  • Remote sign-up language on the FAQ still describes fax/mail of service documentation and SSN for each family member because “our register requires SSN.” Have documents; print the sent email.

HQ AMC does not process this location. The Space-A page still says the first source for eligibility/flight questions should be your nearest AMC Passenger Terminal — then Air Operations. That sentence does not move NASNI onto the AMC form list.

How and when do I mark present?

The Space-A page does not use the phrase “mark present.” Showtime is 2 hours prior to posted departure at the air terminal. Email sign-up is not presence. Signup cutoff is 1 hour prior. Active duty: leave papers in hand at manifest. Have documents and bags with you. Flights can leave earlier than posted.

When is roll call?

No roll-call product URL (FIN). The published clock is showtime 2 hours prior posted departure, unless the Front Desk says otherwise for that mission. Do not copy an AMC “3 hours prior at the ticket counter” rule onto NASNI.

When should duty / PE passengers check in?

No PE check-in clock (this is not a published PE gateway). Duty/Space-R still use the Front Desk; leftover Space-A follows the 2-hour showtime / 1-hour cutoff. Confirm with (619) 545-9567.

Does this terminal operate Patriot Express flights? If yes, to where?

No. Official FAQ: NAS North Island terminal is not an AMC terminal. No 30-day PE icon. Organic Navy Space-A only. This FAQ does not quote destinations or live seats.

Where is short-term and long-term parking, max days, and pass rules?

Not published on the Space-A / FAQ HTML. CNIC NASNI nav includes a “60 Day Parking” item — that is not extracted here as a PAX-lot SOP (not on the Space-A body). Do not invent a max-day figure. Ask the Front Desk.

What lodging is nearby on-base and off-base?

Space-A HTML does not name lodging. Navy Lodge / NGIS official only:

Navy Lodge local phone: FIN recorded 619-435-0191. The live navy-lodge.com/North-Island body fetched 27 Aug 2026 did not print a local desk number (email + central 800). Unofficial directories still show 619-435-0191. Official property page wins for what is printed; do not silently publish 435-0191 as if it were on that HTML. Use 1-800-628-9466 / the Lodge email unless the live Lodge page shows a local line.

Off-base: Not listed on the Space-A HTML. No nightly rates here.

Is there a USO, food, Wi-Fi, showers, lockers?

Official FAQ Q18: generic AMC-terminal facilities boilerplate (exchanges, snack bars, lockers, USO lounges, nurseries at most military terminals), then: “NAS North Island terminal is not an AMC terminal and does not have all these facilities.” Space-A page does not document a lounge/wifi block. Do not treat Q18 as a NASNI amenities list. Showers/lockers/USO in this terminal are not published as present. No official USO center page was found inside the NASNI air terminal.

What documents are required?

Space-A: DoDI 4515.13 eligibility; page fields (name, rank/rate category, destination); active duty leave papers at manifest. FAQ remote-signup text still calls for service documentation (and SSN on their register). Duty: travel orders. Have documents on your person. Do not pack passports in a checked bag (FAQ baggage advice).

What are baggage limits and Space-A/PE fees if published?

Bags (official NASNI FAQ Q13 — this HTML, not AMC 2×70 lb):

  • 40 lb checked per person on C-9, C-40, C-130 and other large aircraft
  • 25 lb checked per person on C-12, C-20 and smaller aircraft
  • Family members traveling together may pool so long as the total does not exceed the total allowance
  • 10 lb hand-carry

Q14: Space-A cannot pay for excess baggage. Only duty-status passengers may. Do not copy Ramstein’s 2×70 lb or $41.63 PE tax.

Fees: Not published as a PE head-tax dollar figure.

Can I travel with pets from here?

No for Space-A. Official FAQ Q16: “Can my pet travel with me on a Space A flight? No.” DoD reserved pet shipments for PCS passengers; limited aircraft pet spaces, import docs, divert/quarantine risk. NGIS/Lodge pet rooms are lodging, not a PAX pet program. See the AMC Pet Travel page for AMC terminals — this is not one.

Where are schedules posted?

Is there a posted 0800–1600 desk?

Not on the Space-A page. Daily desk block = Not published. Clocks that are printed: showtime 2 hours prior; cutoff 1 hour prior.

Can I country-sign or pick “anywhere in Europe”?

No. FAQ: country sign-up is not available. Register requires one destination (changeable).

Can I look up my name on the register / self-sign at a kiosk?

No. FAQ: self sign-up and register-status lookup are not available at NAS North Island.

Do I still re-register after 45 days?

Yes (Space-A page). Email again; print it.

Is (619) 545-9531 the Front Desk?

AMC directory second line only. CNRSW Space-A body prints 545-9567. Do not silently merge.

NSA or NAS North Island?

The Space-A page prints NSA North Island Air Terminal in the call block. Installation name is NAS North Island. Not corrected here.

2-hour showtime vs AMC 3-hour roll call?

Use NASNI’s 2-hour showtime. Do not import another terminal’s 3-hour / 4-hour-20-minute clock.

Can Space-A pay to overweight the 40 lb / 25 lb cap?

No (FAQ Q14). Duty only for excess.

Pets if I am PCS through NASNI?

FAQ reserves pet shipments for PCS and still warns spaces/docs/divert. Space-A answer is No. Call the Front Desk before you count on a PCS pet slot — this FAQ does not promise one.

Gate 1 Bldg 680 for a 0500 Saturday show?

VCC closed weekends on both official clocks. Gate 1 is the NBC VCC, not a published air-terminal gate. CAC/DBIDS holders use an open vehicle gate; visitors without a pass: planning problem.

Navy Lodge 619-435-0191?

Not on the live navy-lodge.com/North-Island body (27 Aug 2026). Central 1-800-628-9466 + navylodge.northisland@nexweb.org. FIN recorded 435-0191; flagged, not silently published as on-page.

NGIS pets at Bldg 1521 or NAB Coronado?

NGIS North Island page says pet friendly and tells you to call NAB Coronado NGIS 619-437-3860 for pet rooms in Coronado. Print both.
