Where is the passenger terminal?

721 Aerial Port Squadron Operating Location Alpha, Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal (AMC contact block). Building name on the welcome banner: Edward S. Michael Passenger Terminal.

The AMC page does not publish a street number or a terminal-map URL. GPS the passenger terminal / 721 APS/OL-A, not a generic “Lajes” or Terceira airport pin. On the Portuguese installation.

How do I get on base / which gate should I use?

The AMC Lajes page does not print gate names or gate hours.

This is a Portuguese Air Force installation. From ramstein.af.mil 65th Air Base Group (search-indexed official unit page, 27 Aug 2026; direct fetch 403):

  • Lajes Field is a Portuguese Air Force military base with its own access rules and procedures.
  • Your CAC will not give you access to the installations.
  • Upon arrival you need military orders or NATO orders to gain access on Terceira. Pass & ID issues a permanent base access card during check-in (in uniform, with CAC) for assigned personnel.
  • Government civilians require a no-fee passport.
  • 65 ABG POLAD / Host Nation Advisor is the liaison with Headquarters Azores Air Zone (commercial (+351) 295-573-381 · DSN 314-535-3381 on that unit page).

A Space-A signup does not get you a Portuguese visitor pass. Weekend arrivals without a pre-arranged pass are a planning problem. Confirm with 721 APS/OL-A / Pass & ID before you fly in. Unofficial FSS “Visitor’s Center 0800–1200 / 1300–1545 M–F” lines are not used as verification here.

How do I sign up for Space-A?

Email 721apsol-a.space-asignup@us.af.mil, or use the HQ AMC Space-A form and select Lajes Field AB Azores.

How and when do I mark present?

The AMC page does not use the phrase “mark present.” Roll calls are at the AMC ticket counter. Remote email is not presence.

Leftover sentence still recommends arriving about one or two hours prior to roll call “due to medical screening.” Treat COVID screening as dated leftover. Standing clock: 2 hours 20 minutes prior. Bring all bags and documents.

When is roll call?

2 hours 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure at the AMC ticket counter, unless the current 72-hour product says otherwise.

When should duty / PE passengers check in?

Duty: Be in line NLT 2 hours 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Late arrivals go to Customer Service for re-booking, or as PCS orders instruct.

The page does not print a PE-specific 24-hour check-in clock or a 30-day PE icon.

Does this terminal operate Patriot Express flights? If yes, to where?

Not published as a Lajes PE gateway. The 16 Jun 2026 capture had a 72-hour icon only — no 30-day PE PDF.

Leftover Local Travel Information still talks about “a Patriot Express mission to the United States from Ramstein AB” in a COVID-test section (Ramstein time zone, Germany entry rules). That is Ramstein PE leftover, not a Lajes rotator. Do not plan a PE hop from Lajes from that paragraph.

Is there a USO, food, Wi-Fi, showers, lockers?

Not published on the AMC Lajes HTML (no USO, snack bar, showers, lockers, or terminal Wi-Fi). Unofficial “special category lounge / internet café / no USO” lines are not verified here. Do not plan on them.

What documents are required?

Duty: Travel orders. Space-A: DoDI 4515.13 eligibility plus DoD Force Health Protection and the Foreign Clearance Guide. Have passports/visas on your person.

Host-nation add-on (65 ABG page): CAC is not Portuguese base access. Assigned personnel use orders/NATO orders then a Pass & ID card. Space-A visitors need whatever pass Portuguese authorities require — a signup email is not that pass.

The AMC “Local Travel Information” block is dated COVID (U.S. pre-departure viral test; Germany vaccination/test/recovery; Genesis vs TRICARE portal). Treat it as leftover, not current 2026 entry law. Follow FCG / CDC / Portuguese rules in force when you fly.

What are baggage limits and Space-A/PE fees if published?

Bags (AMC Lajes page): 2 bags per person, 70 lb and 62 linear inches each. One carry-on plus one personal item that must fit under any aircraft seat.

Fees: Not published on the Lajes HTML. No cash-vs-card rule. Do not copy another terminal’s PE head tax.

Can I travel with pets from here?

Not on this terminal page (no 30-day PE icon). The Ramstein-PE COVID paragraph is leftover and is about Ramstein, not Lajes.

Are the COVID test rules in Local Travel Information current?
